Hotels
As for hotels, all of the places we stayed were clean and filled with pleasant staff. We stayed at tourist hotels in Sydney, a resort in Sydney, a bed and breakfast in Airlie Beach and a guest house in Port Campbell. We met a ton of people who stayed in hostel accomodation. Not the most romantic, but the price is definitely a lot cheaper than a brand name hotel. We have links to some of the sites we used to find our accomodations on our Links page.
The biggest piece of advice related to hotels is maybe go to the grocery store or corner store to get food for breakfast. The breakfast at hotels was ridiculously expensive. We had two breakfast buffets that were over AUD$40/person for nothing spectacular.
